VMware Converter v3.0.1 fails to connect to VirtualCenter

I've seen allot of threads on this but still not clear on which versions work with each other. Here is my environment.

Will these work together????

VMware ESX 2.5.3

VMware VC v1.3.1- 18881

VMware Converter v3.0.1 - 44840

See error log below for details of error.

Unfortunately our combination will not work.

Converter 3.0.1 requires VirtualCenter 2.0.1 or ESX Server 3.0.1.

ESX Server 2.5.x must be managed by VirtualCenter 2.0.1 in order for Converter to communicate with it. Since you are running VirtualCenter 1.3 you do not have this option.

For workarounds, you can:

1. Use Converter and select "standalone VM" and "Workstation 4.x" as your target. Once your VM is created, you can use SCP to copy your .vmdk files to your ESX Server and then run vmfkstools to import the VM.

2. Run P2V Assistant. Create a Windows VM on your ESX Server host and install P2V Assistant in that VM. Power off the VM. Create a new VM that will become your converted machine, attach that VM's disk to your Windows VM, and power on the P2V VM. Then in P2V Assistant, choose "direct disk attached to this machine".

Thanks for info. Any issues with using VC 2.0.1 on a ESX 2.5.x server?

No. VirtualCenter 2.0.1 can manage a mixed environment of ESX Server 2.5.x hosts as well as ESX Server 3.x hosts, for that matter.
