  • 1.  VMware Converter: RHEL5 Srv P2V Will it work?

    Ok,

I've got a RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 Server currently running the i386 version as a physical box. It's got dual fiber channel NICs and is running EMC PowerPath to connect to a Raw Device Mapped SAN.

The question is: Can I P2V that system using VMware Converter Enterprise and have it work properly as a VM?

Is there anything special I have to do with this system?

What I'd plan to do is to P2V it, turn it off, and then put the FC NICs into the ESX server.

I guess I need to uninstall PowerPath, but what else do I need to do?

Converting a linux based machine is not supported. At best you can follow documentation on a workaround for RHEL4 which will at the least explain some known issues with converting *nix platforms.

After Converting Physical RHEL4 System to a Virtual Machine, System Cannot See Hard Disks and Kernel Panics
