    1. VMware newbie.

    2. Vcenter / Infrastructure client 2.5

    3. V2V conversion of a RHEL 5 installation.

    4. Source VM is running on ESXi 3.5.

All seemed to go well until the new VM booted at which time the filesystem failed to mount (followed by a cascade of subsequent failures). It appears all or part of the filesystem didn't get moved. Noticed in the selection process converter seemed to only see one volume but the source machine has two volumes.

Any help/advice you can render would be helpful.

(Waiting for help desk staff to send converter enterprise log to me for further study.)

    Many thanks!

    lapidarynewbie,

It might be possible to use the Configure Machine option from Converter 4.0 beta. I'd suggest this because VMware Converter 3.0.3 does not support converting a Linux Operating System. Converter 4.0 does support hot converting some Linux operating systems. Here are a few links to get you started:

    Release Notes

    Supported Linux Operating Systems:

    - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 (32 bit)

    - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (32 bit and 64 bit)

    - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 (32 bit and 64 bit)

    - Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 (32 bit and 64 bit)

    - Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 (32 bit)

    - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8

    - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (32 bit)

    - SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (32 bit and 64 bit)

    - Ubuntu 5.x

    - Ubuntu 6.x

    - Ubuntu 7.x (32 bit)

    - Ubuntu 8.x (32 bit)

NOTE: There is no telephone phone support for Converter 4.0 beta.

Many thanks for the information! Was unaware of the 3.0.3 limitation. (Again, I'm a newbie. In fact, most of my experience is actually Windows. My Linux is old and rusty.)
