With VMWare making the ESXi hypervisor free, has any one heard if they will now allow p2v with converter standard?

Strange question ? - VMware gives away Converter Starter edition.
Starter edition can do Cold Clones and Hot Clones - what else do you want ?

Yes, but it can't hot clone to ESXi.
Can't you ? - then what about storing the hot clone locally first ?
Cold Clones to ESXi work with the starter edition - I am just testing it

Let me know how it goes. The only problem with a cold clone is we routinely clone production servers to generate our 3 different test networks as well as to keep our test networks up to date.
(unfortunately, we are required to have three seperate test networks for one of our applications. Don't ask, just one of the requirements)

No problems with coldclones (starter edition) to new ESXi 35u2

I don't get any downtime on these servers very often to make a copy.
Hello Continnum,
I was under the impression you can only cold clone if you have the Enterprise version of Converter?
Is this correct?
Kind regards,
Stuart

Nope - if you have a Enterprise license you can download an ISO-file with Converter.
If you don't have an Enterprise license you must create this iso yourself with the starter edition.
The function of Converter is the same - you only get much better driver support if you create the Iso yourself.
Visit my site - i make a setup-tool for a CD with Cold Clone Converter
