I am trying to P2V a Windows 2003 server and it gets to 95% and failed stating that the task fails. I have been P2V'ing servers for 2 weeks and this one is the only one I am having issue's with.
The following is the excerpt from the logs where it states the error:
Updating task: (converter.task.TaskInfo) {

target = "cir-vm06.us.cambridge/EXCHANGE",

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this exact problem. Solved it by removing the /3GB switch and rebooting the source before converting. Though I have no idea why that would cause a failed import. May be something to do with the apps that are running hogging memory.
It also helps me by removing /3GB phrase in boot.ini but i do not know the reason.
Life savers!!
I totally agree with the removal of the /3GB in the boot.ini and the reboot of the source machine afterwards.
It helps! I converted the server with Converter Standalone 4.3.0 succesfully!
Thank you all!!
I'm getting a similar message but the machine is running Windows 7, which doesn't use a boot.ini. If I unmark the Reconfigure option when running the converter task, it completes with no errors, but the VM doesn't boot. Running Converter 5.0.0.
The reconfigure box has to be marked, else your vm will not boot. (When you unmark this option, youll get a warning message displayed).
Is your vm not powering on? Or is it, and you just get a black screen? How far does it boot? Any error messages?
Maybe you can change OS settings to Vista in the Edit settings of your vm before powering on.
(Right click the vm - Edit settings - Tab Options - General options - Guest Operating System).
And than power on your vm.
Else maybe you'll find some usefull information here:
Message was edited by: P2Ver If everything still fails; Try a cold clone (Converting by booting from CD) read the following website carefully to obtain a cold clone converter CD: http://www.vmsage.com/vmware-converter/getting-the-vmware-cold-clone-iso
The issue appears to be in the boot sector. The original machine had 2 partitions: utility and win7. When transferring just the Win7, I'd get just a blank screen and flashing cursor. When converting choosing both, Windows boots but ends up with a 0xc0000225 error. Part of the issue might be that this machine originally had Windows XP and some attempts to update to Vista were tried but failed. Installed Win7 over it a while ago, but there were some remnants of XP out there. I cleaned those up with no avail. I'm going to try once more changing the drive controller and then some boot repair commands.
Windows repair does not repair the issue. 0xc0000225 error on boot. 7 attempts and all have failed. You know what they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I'm convinced that this machine cannot be converted.
I don't believe in machines that can't be converted.
Except Novell, but still that can be done with other software than Vmware.
But I really suggest you use a cold clone converter CD to boot from.
In my earlier posts in this topic you'll find the URL to download the ISO for Vmware's cold clone converter CD.
