Use of VMware Converter 3.0.1 on VCB Proxy impossible?

Hello Everybody,

we have installed recently the VMware Converter 3.0.1 on our VCB Proxy with framework build 42090, Windows 2003 R2 SP2.

Now we have tested a restore of a backuped machine. The restore always fails with the error message "Unable to determine guest operating system".

A review of the Converter log files showed the following error:

Failed to get info for
.\PhysicalDrive1: error Read
.\PhysicalDrive1 disk layout: The device is not ready (21)

Failed to get info for
.\PhysicalDrive2: error Read
.\PhysicalDrive2 disk layout: Incorrect function (1)

Failed to get info for
.\PhysicalDrive3: error Read
.\PhysicalDrive3 disk layout: Incorrect function (1)

and

Volume's partition info: The request is not supported (50)

A restore of the same backup files with an Converter installed on a Windows XP Workstation succeeded!

Is this a known issue that the VCB framework collides with the VMware Converter?

Regards

Yes, you should avoid installing other VMware products on the same machine as the VCB proxy. Converter should be on its own machine (a VM is ideal) and not on the VirtualCenter Server nor VCB proxy. In your case, the virtual disk service can be different versions between the 2 products and cause problems.
