As discussed in the Workstation forum, I tried to use Importer and got the following error message:
"Virtual Machine Import was Unsuccessful
"We're sorry, but we are unable to import your virtual machine
"An internal error has occurred
(sysimage.faul.UnableToDetermineGuestOS). Please contact VMware for support or additional information."
This happens for each of my VMs, which are functioning under VMware 5.5 as guest OSs Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000.
I can provide the log file. It's too long to post here.
Please send the logfile, and preferably at least one affected .vmx file to vmi2-betafeedback@vmware.com, and we will take a look.
Thanks,
-Gabe
I have sent the files and will post any results once I hear back. Thanks.
I was able to do this:
1. Shut down the VM on 5.5.
2. Clone it as a standalone VM.
3. Run Importer on the clone files with 4.5 as destination.
The new VM gets put into the standard "My Virtual Machines" folder. It would be nice to be able to specify another destination.
I'll leave this topic open until I hear back about the analysis of the logs. Importer should be able to handle the 5.5 files as is.
We haven't received your log files yet, could you verify that you sent them to: vmi2-betafeedback@vmware.com
Thanks,
Gautam
I too am receiving this same error when I try to import a VM from Workstation 5.5. I've sent an email with the attached log file.
An internal error has occurred
(sysimage.faul.UnableToDetermineGuestOS). Please contact VMware for support or additional information."
Thanks,
Brian

A new version of the beta is available, was the customer using this? It contains fixes for a few of the problems discussed on the forums.
Hi gautam.
