I thought the VM converter is able to convert the host in ESX while it's powered on. But apparently, the VM convertor doesn't allow that. Is there a way to convert or copy the vdmk file without the need to power off the VMs?
If you are running converter against the VMX/VMDK, you must power it off. While the virtual machine is powered on, there is a lock placed on the files.
Is this a Windows VM? If so, you may be able to convert by installing Converter inside the VM. However, some require a reboot of the VM itself.
If it's a linux VM, then you might just have to power it off and attempt the conversion .... even though linux is under experimental support.
I'm trying to convert the VM from a ESX machine so that I can use VM Server to run the VMs. I notice I couldn't set schedule as in when to execute the conversion as where. If I didn't remember wrongly, there's an options to set schedule in previous releases.
