Trying to convert Ghost images to VM

Hi, I am looking to convert Norton Ghost images to VM images. As I understand it, I need to use the VMware Converter for Server instead of the Standalone Converter. To this end, I have installed the VMware vCenter Server on a 64-bit XP VM. Now I want to engage the Converter without going through all of the other Orchestrator stuff. Is this possible? If not, what is the simplest route to get me to where I need to go? Documentation on VMware websites is lacking, and there are no Converter specfic READMEs that are packaged with the vCenter installer.

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi,

Actually you can convert Norton Ghost images version 10.0 - 14.0 (only .sv2i files) using Converter Standalone 4.3:

Can you tell me what Norton image you want to convert and to what destination?

The images are Ghost 2003, .gho files, which I had equated with Ghost 9. Now I see that they may be incompatible. Am I hosed here, or is there a way to convert these .gho into something useful to VMware Converter?

Thanks

Import gho files like you would do it on real metal.

- create new empty VM with a vmdk in required size

- boot the ghost boot-cd

- connect to a networkshare where the gho file is created

- restore the gho file to a brand new vmdk

when done run converter againsty the vmx-file - use the "configure machine" option
