Suse Linux 8.1 / 9.1 P2V reconfiguration after conversation fails, any workarounds?

I am trying to P2V older Linux Suse 8.1 or 9.1 Servers (remote, hot-cloning) with Converter Standalone to ESXi 3.5.

Everything seems to work, except a reconfiguaration at the very end of the process.

This means, the VM will not boot.

A later configuration with Converter does not work either, because the guest sytem is not supported.

As the interface between the application and Linux Suse is very interdepedant (and I am no Linux expert), is there any way to get the VM booting/Working?

Many thanks for help in advance,

Yours StressedVMUser

The way to do it should be something along the lines of:

- boot from a SUSE CD.

- reinstall GRUB

- remake initrd

Here's a KB article for RedHat, but I don't think there is one for SUSE.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1002402 particularly step 2 might be used as a reference.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the hint

In the meantime I have organized the Boot CD and tried to follow your recommendation.

Unfortuantely I am stopping at the point were Suse is trying to inititialize the hardware, so I do not even get to the point to enter linux orders.

Do you have any hints from here on?

P.S: Is there any experts in P2V conversation, who could come here (Frankfurt/Main, Germany), could convert 3 Linux servers (see above) and set them up under ESXi and Workstation 6.5.
