Schedule a task for import of a virtual machine...

Hi

I need to schedule a task for import of a virtual machine (will use the converter plugin in vCenter (vCenter 2.5 update 4)

What I need is to clone a windows 2003 server from Production to Test, but I need to reduce the size at the disks. And I can't do this with the clone function...

So I reckon I can use converter, but I get the error that I can't import a powered on virtual machine.

The thing is that I would like this to happen at night, and I can't power off the server by the day.

My scheduled tasks would be:

Task 1: Power off virtual machine (in Production)

Task 2: Import the virtual machine (from Production to Test)

Task 3: Power on the virtual machine (in Production)

Is there any possibilities to do this, if you understand what I want?:)

/Stig

Try to convert your machine as physical one. Then no need to power off the machine during comnversion.

About a year ago I posted how to schedule ColdClones with a handmade ColdClone CD - but due to lack of interest I never finished the documentation.

Warning with hot conversion: do not use on DC, and if you have open files or DBMS stop the services before conversion.
