Runing sysprep in a VM after a P2V

Hi,

I'm new to VM and here's my scenario:

1) I will be using Converter 3.0.2 to perform a P2V migration of a Windows 2003 Server. The VM will be running on ESX 3

2) I was asked to keep both the physical server and the VM running.

Question: Can I run sysprep in the newly created VM (ie. running sysprep after not during the P2V conversion)?

Any insight or personal experience would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

After a P2V you can run a sysprep:

-unplug the network wired

-sysprep

-plug wired network

You can run sysprep during conversion (do not choose to automatically install vm-tools) which will not effect the physical machine. You may want to use the option to not join the network upon power-on to avoid initial name conflicts as sysprep begins to work on 1st power-on.

You can run sysprep after conversion using sysprep as you normally would on a physical machine.
