Hallo, i need to expand the disk size in a VMserver VM (wxpp SP2).
From the VMconverter 3.0 wizard it seems that a new VM would be created.
Can I expand the disk size using Converter and without creating any new vm?
Thanks
Just use the vmware-vdiskmanager utility to enlarge the size of the virtual disk; then inside the guest run a partitioning utility to expand the partition.

Rob - using Converter for expanding disks isn't a bad idea - you do not need to do the diskpart-partition expand.
You can also do this against a VM with snapshots ...
@ lordzoster - whats wrong with a new VM ?
After runing Converter take the disk and throw away the vmx-file.

In your environment you could use Converter to expand the virtual disk and guest partition. You will just need to remove the original virtual disk from the VM configuration and add the new one that was created.
Kevin - the more I think about this - the more I like this procedure: it has the big advantage that it so to say works with a copy of the disk. Even if expanding fails - you still gotr the original.
Vmware-vdiskmanager may run out of space in the middle of the action and leaves you with a broken result.
Only drawback is that it may also change virtual devices - to the second best choice
Many users have used Converter successfully for just that-- to resize virtual disks/partitions larger or smaller.
Ulli, I think it's the best thing since sliced bread
Sure ? - what about ballpoint pens that glow in the dark ?
That too !!
