P2V - physical server has a parallel port dongle

Hi - I'm working my way through P2Ving some of our older physical servers and I've come across an old windows 2000 server (dell poweredge 2800) that runs an application that has its licensing information in a parallel port dongle plugged in the back of the machine.

Has anyone had any experience with virtualising servers with these sorts of physical dongles?

cheers...

that would be no problem if the target is Workstation

hi continuum - not sure I understand you...

I would normally cold clone the server into our vcenter server and the VM would ultimately live on a SAN in an ESX4 environment

do you mean that if I use VMware workstation to do the P2V conversion it will virtualize the server AND the parallel port dongle and its contents ?

thanks...

you did not mention the target for the P2V - if that is ESX this obviously will not work.

Did you check if the something similar to USB over Ethernet Server exists for parallel ports ?
