Hello,
I have a problem with Converter stand alone 5.1 or 5.5, i hope you can help me there.
Anything is working really nice with Windows P2V.
On Linux Debian (5, 6) i don't have succeed to make it work. It always fail at 1% (3% with the 5.5 converter) with this error message:
Network Error, Host Key can't be retreive.
The problem is the same with differents device, and i have tested this morning with a fresh Debian install.
For sure everything is fine concerning ip and network communication between the 2 computers.
I have try some things seen on internet about the hosts.allow, but this seems to doesn't work.
Can someone perhaps help me ?
before you convert try to disable following authentication authentication : login as root and cd /etc/ssh cp sshd_config sshd_config.orig nano sshd_config and change the permission to no as below: PermitRootLogin no PasswordAuthentication no UsePAM if it is not work delte the old host id and genrate new host id with private and public key without password and try again
If i unable the right to log with root in SSH, wich one should i use with the VMware converter so ?
Try this:
VMware KB: Enabling the use of a non-root user for hot cloning of a Linux source machine
But take in to account that this KB is for older converter. The file you need to change is converter-worker.xml and then restart the worker service.

I try it all, even a call to support but this is not working.
More i test it and more i have some doubt about the VM conversion helper. I think the problem came from between the Source machine and the helper that doesnt seems to be created.
When i use a static IP address for the VM, the process is stuck at 1% and i can't ping or log on this helper VM. Should i see it in vCenter when it is created ? Can you ping yours ? VMware say this is possible to log on the Helper VM to check connectivity problem, but it seems my converter just don't create it.
Helper VM is created on pressing Finish button in the GUI before the actual conversion task is started. Since you fail at 1% - the task has obviously been created and the VM should be there. However if the task fails the VM is automatically deleted from the inventory.
