Hi guys...
Sure its been covered, but it's a quick question and I'm in a bit of a time press. Sorry
When doing a P2V with converter standalone v4 I just want to make sure if the conversion keeps all network configurations and settings as is...
Thanx!
as the network adapter is a new piece of hardware for the VM sometimes you need to reconfigure the network.
In windows for example you will find that once the network card is installed and the tools have been installed windows will not assign the same IP as the physical system had, if you try and assign the IP you will get an error that it is already in use by another adapter, you simply have to remove any reference to the IP in the registry and then reassign to the new virtual NW adapter.

Thanx...
So if say you have to test disater recovery and server X goes down, but you have a VM backup made by P2V conversion you can't just start up the VM and continue production? You have to first reconfigure the network settings and config?
That could be a problem when your in a financial enviroment like I am..
Any suggestions?
you can also use sysprep to configure the network settings during the conversion.
p.s to configure the network will take you all of 30 secs..... in a disaster situation thats not bad.. if you need 100% uptime use cluster, clusters between different sites and in the case of VMware use SRM.
