P2V - Citrix environment

Hello Everyone,

I am new to P2V in Citrix environment. We are planning to virtualize Citrix environment. Please guide me step by step process which I need to follow for P2V migration of Citrix Presentation servers.

Also please help in identifying pre-migrations points and validations that needs to be taken care. We are migrating 50 physical server to DL 580 environment.

Any help will be highly appriciated.

Thanks

Bondu

Best practices for troubleshooting VMware Converter

Just keep in mind that sysprep is not recommended for citrix machines. Use newSID instead.

Any references to removing com ports from the physical citrix machine to have converter work can be ignored as of converter 3.0.2 and newer.

if you are P2Ving and retiring the old equipment, just treat it as you would any other physical machine conversion. however if you are virtualising host that are not going to be retired, IE increasing server count. then this is the proceedure I use

Disable remote logins to server

Create Dummy LMG and set an IP address Range of 1.1.1.1 and your own IP Address, this is used to stop unwanted connections happening.

Move machine to be mimgrated to Dummy LMG.

Enable Logons.

On Citrix server issue a Change farm and move the machine in to its own access based Test farm.

Reboot

Then Stop and disable all Citrix Services.

Hot Convert Machine

Logon to VM using Local Credential and Change Computer name and run NewSID.

Reboot

Rejoin VM to Domain.

Enable and Start Citrix Services. Verify all connectivity to Guest by creating a ICA connection to either the Desktop or a published application.

run ChFarm to return the host to the production farm and add Published apps to server and test.

Once satisfied return the Server to the correct LMG.

Do you have any updates on p2v (migrate/decom) process for citrix ps? Any considerations as related to IP changes?

Thanks
