New virtual machines with boot paravirtual, can they be converted to workstation?

Hi

I have tested installing new virtual machines with Windows 2008 R2 on Esx 4u1 with vmware paravirtual disk boot drive and vmxnet 3 network card (vm version 7). This works fine on my ESX hosts controlled by the new vCenter.

However I'm wondering is it possible to convert these machines to VMware Workstation 7 with that disk type and network card? Have any of you experienced problems with that?

Also what is the best vmware tools version to use if you want these images to be compatible? Or is it always best practice to remove and re-install the vmware tools when migrating images like this?

I have googled these questions but could not find a direct answer for these new product version from vmware, most articles relates to pre esx 4u1 situations where it was not supported to use paravirtual boot drives.

Thanks for any answers Smiley Happy
