Keep P2V VM (periodically) synchronised

Hiya all,

We need to create a backup VM from a physical server, and keep it as up-to-date/synchronised as possible, for use as a failover server.

Using the latest versions of vSphere/vCenter/Converter, what are the options or best practices to achieve this?

Or maybe there are 3rd party tools (like Veeam maybe?) that would add other beneficial options to this scenario?

Thanks for your input!

Kris

After each synchronization the destination VM is left in a bootable state. It will be reverted to the most recent bootable state if the synchronization fails.

Hello

If your physical machine is running Windows, you may start a synchronizable conversion and leave it not finalized. Use Converter SDK to periodically start incremental updates.

You can start and test the backup VM whenever you want, the next increment will remove any such changes.

P.S.

I have recently added new samples which include how to do incremental updates.

Hi,

The source is a physical Windows 2008R2 machine.

What happens if the source gets disconnected/crashes while the P2V copy is not finalized?

Will the Vm still be useable?

Thanks!
