Hot/Cold Clone Scheduling in Latest Version of Converter?

I'm not sure why I'm not seeing it but I cannot figure out how to schedule a job in vmware converter. I downloaded the latest version, read the pdf but when I create a new import task I just don't see where I can set it to run at a later time? Also can I schedule a cold clone and can I setup a pre backup script on a scheduled hot clone (to shutdown services etc).

Thanks!

Matt

Please note that this is not an issue where a feature within our product is not functioning as expected but is rather a feature that may be included in a future release. We ask that you summarize your feature request into your own words at either our main "contact us" webpage or through our VMTN community forums.

Alternatively, you might be able to bind the functionality of window's scheduled tasks along with the experimental p2vtool.exe which is found in the C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Converter directory.

Examples on how to use p2vtool.exe can be found: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/VMware_Converter_manual302.pdf

I am licensed for converter enterprise, in your response to my other question you referenced:

In this doc there is a line:

Scheduled Conversions

Ability to schedule P2V conversion and V2V migration tasks.

I want to schedule my conversions but don't know how? I never see the option. Also when I browse my AD all the machines don't show up.

Thanks,

Matt

Scheduling a Coldclone Import can not be done from a remote host - but you can do that on the box you want to import.

Basically you have to install a PE with converter as a boot-option into boot.ini and then start the PE by loading it into RAM completely.

You then can schedule a reboot.

Tricky - but possible - if you are seriously interested ask here

Thanks Continuum, I'll look into that further. Scheduling a cold clone would be great. Scheduling a hot clone would at least get us going.

Am I completely missing the boat on this one? Is scheduled hot cloning possible?

In the VMware Converter guide, pg 37 they refer to "Scheduling the import task" But I just don't see where I can set it up ahead of time.

Thanks,

Matt

Not "would" - "is"

The problem with it - you need to build a custom-made ColdCloneCD AND prepare an autoit-script that runs on the ColdCloneCD itself and clicks through the converter-gui.

I made one recently and it works - question is if it is worth the effort to create it if this is your first selfmade-made ColdcloneCD.

Do you need to do this often ? - if yes contact me - we then can consider ways how to simplify the setup.

Basically I think it is possible to create one ColdCloneCD and have it read the gui-options from a config-file you can store on the physical box.

I have done the logics already - just don't need it myself

Yes, you can schedule a task with the plugin for converter under VC2.5.

See attached.
