FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

While converting a server 2012 to Esxi. I rcv this message at 96%. Error Reconfiguration failed. With a status of: FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

I am using Vmware vcenter Converter Standalone server 6.1

please find attached the Export Logs.

Can you please point me to the right direction?

Looks like Converter couldn't find an active partition. Can you post the source machine partition information (e.g. a snapshot from 'disk management' in 'computer management')?

Are you deselect partition during conversion? In source there are 3 partitions while on the target there are 2 partitions. Unfortunately the missed partition is 'active' one, can't skip it.

Partition structure is shown in attached screenshot, it is a Win 2008R2 server, actual patchlevel.

VMware Converter standalone is actual too: v6.2.0.

First attempt with active M: partition results in:

"FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible."

After deactivating this (M: second) active partition it results in:

"Unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine."

Converted to vm should be SYSTEM-RESERVED, C:, I:, not M: and not K:.

K: is deselected, second harddisk M: is deselected too.

So there is only one active partition (=SYSTEM-RESERVED), there is only one start partition (=C:).

Conversion attempt has been done with "Run as administrator" and admin privileges.

How to solve this issue?

You can try the following two things:

- edit registry and remove such key from HLMK\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

- create and an empty key

Regkey rhelfltr isn't present in whole registry.

I am a little bit afraid editing registry for 'try-and-error' purpose, its a production server running...

Similar issue has been posted here, no result so far:

I did find a workaround, not with VMware converter but with Drive Snapshot.

Imaging and restoring to a VirtualBox VM works for me, virtualized server is running.
