Hello everyone,
I have a nagging issue and I really hope someone can help. We have recently successfully converted about 6 Windows Servers with absolutely no isses at all. I am now needing to convert a CentOS 5.3 and another CentOS 5.6 machine and I am having a ton of trouble. The convert will start, get to about 1%, then fail. I have attached the logs to this thread. The errors I have found in the logs don't make much sense and I can't imagine that is the reason they are failing, but it's throwing a "dangling SSL" error. We are using VMWare convert version 4.3.0 build 292238
I have searched these and other forums and have yet to find a real solutiuon. Any help is greatly appreciated as we need to get these servers converted very soon. Thanks,
Prestige
You might want to check out and make sure DNS is working properly and your host file is configured properly on the CentOS box. Test a DNS query of your vCenter server from the physical machine.
Another weird thing I see in the logs is that you seem to be having a segmentation fault when trying to convert.
How are you going about the P2V? Hot or cold?
Thanks for the fast response. I should have specified the things I have already tried. DNS is working properly and I can ping the convert machine no problem. Both of these machines are on the same physical subnet. I am unsure what a segmentation fault is. I am fairly new to the Convert utility. Like I said, the convert worked fine for Windows machines, but is not working for out RHEL machines if that makes a difference. Also, I am unsure of what you mean by "hot or cold". Thanks,

Have your tried a cold clone of the machine?
Have a try with the Converter 5 beta. It does a better job working with and preserving LVM. Prior versions convert LVM to disks which has caused issues.

Sorry, I had to Google what the Cold Clone entails, and no we have not tried that as it would require us to bring the physical machine down for a period of time to boot from the Cold Clone DVD. If this is something that would help with the convert, then I am interested but I am unaware of the process. I would like to use the hot convert if possible and just resolve the errors that its having. Thanks,
Then I would go with what Dave was saying. Try the Converter 5 Beta, it may just work out for you.
Coldclone of Linux does not work anyway
I will attempt to use the beta and post back. If anyone else looks at the logs and notices somethig else fishy let me know. Thanks
