Hello
I am a newbie to VMConverter Standalone and using 4.0.1 Build 161434
When I try use the option to convert the local machine to virtual..
I get "A general system error occurred. Remote server closed connection after 0 response byte read"
The agent log where it started to error is as follows
connectable = (vim.vm.device.VirtualDevice.ConnectInfo) null,
controllerKey = <unset>,
macAddress = "00:13:CE:F1:3F:20",
wakeOnLanEnabled = <unset>,
Panic: Not Reached: @ d:/build/ob/bora-161434/bora/sysimage/ufad/vmImporter/serviceUtils.cpp:86

Any suggestions on what could be wrong?
Thanks

Krishna,
Welcome to the VMware Community Forums!
Would you be able to provide the entire log file, and a screen capture of the error message? Both of these can be provided via the 'attach' feature of the forum.
It is best for us to know the situation to try and help through a problem. So it's a local machine (windows or linux) going to virtual (ESX or which format)?

In step 2 of the wizard, what option are you choosing?
I would hope that you are NOT choosing "VMware Infrastructure Virtual Machine". This is not a supported method to convert to Server 2.0.1.
You would need to choose "VMware Workstation or other virtual machine", then choose the Server 2.0.x format.

So it looks like something is happening when converter attempts to connect to the Covnerter Agent Service.
When the Agent service crashes, this is the response you are seeing in the GUI. At this time converter attempts to gather information from the source physical.
Is there anything that could be preventing or causing problems? Like the Disk Management snap-in is non-functional, your user name doesn't have logon as service, or the server is boot from SAN? I know there are other problems that can occur .... but can't think of them off the top of my head.

worked for me, important screen capture is present.
