Error porting Win7 bootcamp to VMware Workstation using VMware vCenter Standalone 6.2.0

Dear community,

I hope someone can help me with the following error:

I have a Win7 x64 Home Premium Bootcamp installation on an old iMac that I'd like to port to a VMware virtual machine, such that I can run it on a newer Win10 machine. (need Win7 for specific older programs). To this end, I've installed VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.2.0.1 build-8466193 (latest as far as I know). I run this as admin with the following settings:

Source: powered on machine
Destination: folder on C drive of powered on machine
Destination type: VMware Workstation 11.x or 12.x
Destination system info: all default
Disk partitions: only Bootcamp partition, shrinking from 500 to 100GB (75GB occupied)

The job doesn't seem to start properly, and cancels after seconds with the following error:

reason = "Server closed connection after 0 response bytes read; <io_obj p:0x01557834, h:1380, <pipe '\\.\pipe\vmware-converter-worker-soap'>, <pipe '\\.\pipe\vmware-converter-worker-soap'>>"

I've couldn't add the last log files of the server because .zip files are not allowed as attachment anymore?
so please let me know if any additional files are needed to resolve this issue.

Many thanks in advance, Tom
