Converter permissions

Apologies for asking again a question which I see has been asked many times, but I do not see a response which actually worksd for me.

I have delegated superusers on my VI (build 84767 everywhere) who can create, clone and destroy VMs. I need to know exactly what minimum additional rghts need to be granted to allow them to download VMs using Converter Enterprise (standalone is fine.

I can verify the VMs and the hardware boxes by using my admin account, which will convert P2V and V2V successfully.

V2V is the first problem: using an account with the delegated user rights, I get the usual "Unable to determine guest operating system".

As I say, the VM is fine and I can V2V it with an admin account, it is a missing permission somewhere down the line.

The delegated users have the following rights on the VM folder with Propagation enabled:

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.ConsoleInteract

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.DeviceConnection

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.PowerOff

  • VirtualMachine.Config.DiskLease

They can attach ISOs off the datastores and deploy templates, so have Browse Datastore at the root.

At the resource pool they have:

  • Resource.AssignVMToPool

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.ConsoleInteract

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.DefragmentAllDisks

  • VirtualMachine.Interact.DeviceConnection

If this is concerning the use of Converter in relation to Virtual Center, then you should check out page 21 of the Converter 3.0.3 manual at
