  • 1.  Converter Standalone: compatibility for older OSes

    Posted Aug 11, 2014 11:56 AM

    Hi all,

I need to P2V a WServer 2003 SP2 but Converter Standalone 5.5.2 is not compatible with that OS.

After some research, it seems that Converter 5.0.1 is the latest version supporting that system.

    My environment is 5.5 U1.

Will version 5.0.1 work with vSphere 5.5 U1 without any issues?

    Thank you!

Officially this not supported, but you can try convert your Windows Server 2003 using the latest version of Converter.

I think I will try to convert it with 5.0.1 and then, if successful, upgrade virtual hardware to match that of vSphere 5.5.

I prefer to use an older Converter version, because that way I know for sure that the guest OS is supported, which I think it's the most important thing!

One more thing, which is the best way to install Converter to get the best performance?

I've thought of installing it in the source machine and run the conversion from within.

version 5.5.2 supports 2003 R2, but mine is 2003.......don't know if it will make much difference or not.

The problem for me is that I have only two hours for the whole process, so I want to make sure everything goes well at the very first time! :smileyhappy:

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that your task will complete for 2 hours... it depends of too many things so it's unpredictable at all. For Converter after 5.x you can speedup transfer of data excluding SSL, try to convert 'this local machine'... but again - there is no guarantee for such small time frame.
