Convert from GSX to ESX 3.5

Hi all,

Can I convert one virtual machine in GSX Server to ESX Server 3.5 with Converter? If the answer is yes, which option do I have to choose in converter for imprting from GSX Server?

Thanks !!

If the GSX VM is off, use "standalone" image as the source. If it is on, use "physical machine" and point to it's IP address.

Alternatively, you can install converter inside the VM and choose "physical machine" with "this local machine".

Hi,

only for your info; you can use vmkfstools -i to convert your gsx vmdk in esx vmdk like "vmkfstools -i win2003gsx.vmdk win2003esx.vmdk".

The better way is however vmware converter.

This will work and is your only hope if your VM is linux based. However if you built your VM using IDE instead of SCSI, this command wont work.
