I have just updated our vmware server 1.x to 2.0 and are trying to convert a Windows 2005 Virtual Server image for the vmware server 2.0. I'm using vmware converter 3.0.3
In the "Select a type of virtual machine to create" option, I have 3 options:
1) Workstation 6.x, VMware Fusion 1.x, VMware Player 2.x, VMware ACE 2.x
2) Workstation 5x, VMware Server 1.x, VMware Player 1.x
3) Workstation 4.5.x, ACE 1.x, GSX Server 3.x
Which option is the correct one for vmware server 2.0? I assume it is still number 2, but if somebody would like to confirm this, it would make me happy.
For the old vmware server I have always picked option 2), but this specifically says "1.x" and properly not good for server version 2.0?
Regards,
Lars.
Lars - the best match for VMserver 2 would be "Workstation 6"
But it really doesn't matter that much.
Once you have the resulting VM you can always run "upgrade virtual hardware"

Lars,
Welcome. If you are using Server 2.0 RC1, then use option 2.
This is documented on page 7 of the FAQ for VMware Server 2.0 RC1
Good Luck!
Hello vmroyale,
Thank you for the reply.
I'm not using Server 2.0 RC1. The version I have installed is (I am pretty sure) the real deal. Not a RC. But I will make sure.
In the ‘FAQ FOR VMWARE SERVER 2 - AUGUST, 2008' there is also no mention of destination options.
Regards,
Lars
