Hi, I'm trying to run a P2V using Converter. I've successfully converted this server before, but for some reason it's failing on me over and over today. I thought it could be because of the name, so I've tried naming it various things, it still fails. Here is the text from the log file. Any suggestions?

Which version of converter did you run? The plugin within VC or the separate download version? Could you attach the entire log (or all of them in .zip)? If this is the download version, you can find that in the C:\windows\temp\vmware-temp\ of the machine you are trying to convert.
Okay, I tried it again this morning, with a different server. Same error, failed at 1%. So I went on the physical server and tried to run the conversion from the local box. Same error, 1%. The version of Vmware Converter on this server is 3.0.1 build 44840. I'm attaching the log from the conversion. Anything you can see would be helpful. Thanks.
Try again with Converter 3.0.2u1 (www.vmware.com/downloads/converter) and install/run as the local admin direct on the physical machine you are converting. Afterwhich, if it still fails, attach the vmware-converter-#.log file (not the client log).
Upgraded to the newest version. Failed at 2% this time with the error "ERROR: Failed to take snapshot of a source volume. Possible causes include not having any NTFS volumes on Windows XP or Windows 2003 source systems, and not having enough free disk space."
Attaching the converter log. Thanks.
Creating snapshot using vss
Shapshot creation failed. driver=vss
Creating snapshot using vsnap
Vsnap does not have admin rights
Snapshotting
?\Volume{b60dba70-ca8c-11d9-9e6c-806d6172696f} using stcbasic.sysstcbasic.sys not installed or snapshot creation failed. err=2
VSS = volume shadow copy service. This is what we use to clone a windows XP or 2003 machine. But for windows 2000 and NT4, we push a new service called stcbasic.sys.
So basically it always say "Vsnap does not have admin rights" and then attempt the stcbasic.sys method for windows 2000. But the last line is the actual problem. I suspect you either neglected to reboot the 2000 box after installing the converter agent (which is necessary since you just upgraded) or you have a lock on the drive (antivirus, etc)
To resolve a lock, try msconfig.
For windows 2000, you will need to use a 3rd party tool:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=windows2000msconfig&btnG=Google+Search
To do so:
Click Start --> enter "msconfig" (without quotes)
Click on the "services" tab
Check the box for "hide all Microsoft services"
Select "disable all", then re-check the VMware services
Select the "startup" tab
Select "disable all" then re-check the VMware startup items
Reboot.
