Conversion failing from Server 2 to ESXi 3.5 U4

I'm trying to convert a VM of Server 2003 that is currently running on a Server 2 platform to run on an ESXi 3.5 U4 platform. While cloning the first hard drive, it fails with the message

FAILED: agent.internal.fault.NfcConnectionFault.summary

Could someone point me in the correct direction to diagnose this error? Are we dealing with network, ports, process on ESXi, ?
