Changing the size of a VMDK?

I have an image that is currently on GSX 3.x and it is 80 GB in size. I would like to transfer it to an ESX server with a VMDK of 20GB in size, which is plenty of space for the data on the disk.

I can do this by attaching that VMDK to a Vm running the VM Importer tool and pointing the tool at my image and the VMDK file correct?

Am I missing anything?

I don't think so - you'll have to resize before you use the importer. I don't remember there being an option in importer to go to an existing vm (Importer creates/duplicates for you).

Extending VMDKs is easy - it's the shrinking that is a problem...

I think the easiest thing for you to do is to backup the data and restore to a new, smaller vmdk... (or if it's just data, copy it from one to the other)
