Cannot run an imported VM

After implementing the workarounds recommend in this thread, I have attempted to start and utilize the Windows 7 VMs. Using the imported settings, the VM fails to boot at all. Pretty shoddy start from a paid product when VirtualBox can use/import VMs successfully from other hypervisors without issue!

To try and circumvent this, I instead imported the vmdk disks only, and manually create a new VM replicating my VirtualBox settings (see attached). This allows the VM to boot, but BSOD prior to reaching login screen, usually after a prolonged period of time spent at the Windows Splash screen.

I set the VMWare settings to match as closely as possible, to no avail (IDE controller O being the big one). I even match my VMWare Workstation settings (for which my trial has expired), and it still doesn't work. Given that both VBox and VMware Workstation are able to run this VM, why can't ESXI?
