Can I convert a Linux partition locally?

Hello,

I try to make an virtual machine from my SLES 10 server. I know that if you have a Windows machine that you can make an virtual machine by remote and "This local machine" without using any ESX servers. This works fine! But if I want to make an virtual machine on my Linux machine it will grey out the "This local machine" and you have to choose "A remote machine" to specify the localhost machine. But if I try that or even try backupping it remotely with the Vmware converter client from a windows machine, it wants me to choose for an Vmware infrastructure.

Is there an a possibility to make an virtual machine of my Linux system without using vmware infrastructuur?

With kind regards,

Vincent

Hi,

With Converter Standalone the following is stated in the user guide "Converter Standalone supports conversion of Linux sources only to managed destinations."

Maybe it is possible if you use the Cold Clone ISO instead.

Another option would be CloneZilla or similar software http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-clonezilla/

cheers
