CD-ROM in Windows NT 4.0 Server

Hello

I converted a Windows NT 4.0 Server SP6a with Cold Clone. The Server have a SCSI CD-ROM.

Now in VMware Workstation the CD-ROM is not connectet.

No CD-ROM Device in WinNT 4 Disk Manager.

So I can't Install the Network Driver nor the VMware Tools.

The *.vmx File says:

ide0:0.present = "TRUE"

ide0:0.autodetect = "TRUE"

ide0:0.filename = "auto detect"

ide0:0.deviceType = "atapi-cdrom"

ide0:0.startConnected = "TRUE"

What Is going wrong?

Thank for any help.

It would appear your CD-ROM is not activated. Within your devices, make sure that the atapi device is set to “boot” automatic and cdrom device set to “system” automatic. Reboot the VM and you should be able to mount a CD-ROM and the VMware Tools installation CD.

Hello Pangchen

The original, physical WinNT 4.0 Server is a SCSI-only Hardware. So atapi Device is disabled there. Now its work perfectly.

Thank you very much.

P.S. VMware Converter converts only the default Boot Path in boot.ini File. Not all the other ones. Is this right?

That is correct. Converter looks at the first OS listed by partition number. If you have a multi-boot system, edit the boot.ini so that the desired OS is listed first, and re-run Converter and select Configure on the VM and it will convert the other OS.

Also make sure the cdfs driver is enabled (automatic) and started.
