List of items I need to be ready to install my first VMware ESI and VCentre

I am simply looking at a check list I need to set up a build area to build a VMware cluster - I have three servers ready to unbox and eternus storage.

Assume I have power and network cables etc

So I need the VLANS, so I need a switch

I need NTP Server

I need media

Do I need AD ?

I need decided IP Plan \schema

I need host names

I have my storage

I suppose I need to write down what my vdrs should be configured

Do I need NTP server - emulated VM possible ?

DO you know where I can find such a list as this please ?

Please provide the plan on which your new environment has been designed/purchased. This will be a good starting point to check whether this plan is all that you need, or if adjustments should be made.

Hi, If it's production, you have to have AD and NTP Server. AD can be the NTP server. Anyway, you already install it like this, because for the production environment it is necessary and you already have experience.

Hi There,

yes you need to have media, IP Plan, AD /NTP can be same and can run on windows as well, have IP plan handy with hostnames

I'm curious to know how that turned out (and have you created your own list?) - was this a dev/test instance or intended for production? I ask that from the networking perspective, and whether you ran a basic network or laid a foundation to expand into NSX territory (I did that a few years ago but moved onto a different project before we finished the NSX migration - lots of lessons learned from a private test instance).
