VMware Specialist – vSAN 2022 with VCP-DCV 2021

Hi all,

Looking for some clarification on a certification for vSAN 2022.

https://www.vmware.com/learning/certification/vsan-specialist.html

On the requirements for this cert it says I need VCP-DCV 2022.  I have a VCP-DCV 2021 from Oct 2021.  Will this be sufficient for the vSAN 2022 cert?

It looks like the exam for VCP-DCV 2021 and 2022 are the same, 2V0-21.20.

https://www.vmware.com/learning/certification/vcp-dcv.html

Can I go and sit the VMware vSAN Specialist Exam (5V0-22.21) with my VCP-DCV 2021 and that will fulfill the requirements?

Many thanks

Candidates can earn the vSAN Specialist 2022 with a VCP-DCV 2021. Any VCP in the last two years will be eligible to meet the prerequisite.

Follow-up with certification@vmware.com with issues, and post updates here, and I can help.

Thanks

Funnily enough, i've just googled exactly the same question and found myself here!

I noticed the VCAP  2022 accepts both VCP 21 and 22 certs as pre-reqs, but as you say, the VSAN 2022 only mentions VCP 22.

Can you post back here when you get a reply, as keen to get clarification too 🙂

Thanks ccsmse for the info on the VCAP pre-reqs, that's interesting.

The first response from VMware was...

Yes I needed to complete the VCP-DCV 2022 certification path as a requirement for the vSAN 2022 certification.

When mentioned I'd already completed the same exam with VCP-DCV 2021  months earlier I was then told the following:

Please be informed that in order to hold VMware Specialist – vSAN 2022 Badge, VCP-DCV 2022 is an mandatory requirement. In order to upgrade your VCP-DCV 2021 to VCP-DCV 2022,-Professional VMware vSphere 7.x (2V0-21.20) will not serve as an requirement as you have already taken it in the previous year. In order to hold active VCP-DCV 2022, I request you to complete any one of the training courses

- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V7]
- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V7] - On Demand
- VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V7]
- VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V7] – On Demand
- VMware vSphere: Troubleshooting [V7]
- VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V7]
- VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale plus Troubleshooting Fast Track V7]
- VMware vSphere: Advanced Administration Workshop [V7]

Once you complete any one of the mandatory training courses, VCP-DCV 2022 will be generated and once you pass the VMware vSAN Specialist Exam-VMware vSAN Specialist Exam (5V0-22.21), VMware Specialist – vSAN 2022 Badge will be generated and will be valid for lifetime.

@scott28tt is this something you could check further as it doesn't make any sense, especially in light of the VCAP requirements allowing for VCP 2021 and 2022.  The fact I've completed the same exam albeit a few months earlier in the previous calendar year so that doesn't count.

As it stands, I'll finish my vSAN training course and sit the exam, but I'm not paying or sitting another course for a 2022 badge.

In order to renew a VCP, there are usually several options.

1) Pass a VCP exam

2) Attend a course (this option would mean that sitting an exam would not be necessary)

3) Take a VCP exam in a different track

4) Take a VCAP exam

For the current VCP-DCV 2022 cert, people like you and I are unable to choose option 1 as we took and passed the only exam currently available. In previous years, VMware had a ‘Delta’ exam for 6.0 and 6.5 which a candidate was able to take in order to recertify.

I am really hoping that VMware will introduce a Delta version of the exam soon but I have not seen any sign of one yet.

I also note that attendance of the 3 day ‘What’s New’ course would also recertify your VCP status but was missing off the list.

Just to recap, attendance of a course is not mandatory for recertification, it is merely an option a candidate can take instead of taking an exam when renewing their VCP.

Not sure what you’re expecting me to do exactly, but I can try…

@KarlChilds Is it true that the vSAN 2022 badge is ONLY a possibility for those who have VCP-DCV 2022 and NOT those who have VCP-DCV 2021?

Just out of interest, what training course are you doing? i've only just started looking at the vSAN certification yesterday, so would welcome any pointers on training 😊

I've just completed the "VMware vSAN: Management and Operations [V7]" course from VMware bought via Global Knowledge.  I found the structure, content and instructor very good.  Next up is the "VMware vSAN: Plan and Deploy [V7]".  Both on-demand.

Just to update, I passed the exam and was emailed the new vSAN 2022 badge from Credly and my CertMetrics has been updated too.  Thanks again for the help.

hey there, I can add to this that I also passed the exam and received the badge while holding a VCP-DCV 2020. When looking at mylearn, i can see that a VCAP 2020 also would have done the trick.
