yes vmware is good for you if you want to purseu ur career in virtualization and cloud computing. basic server knowledge would be essential which i beilieve u will attain once u start working on it.
a honest suggestion would be select a field which interest you, rather than what u hear....
please tell me what are the basic knowledge required for vmware. vmware is networking or servers fileld? In Vmware netwroking part is % ?
The interesting in vmware is, that it related to many different fields in the it.
Knwoledge about networking, server hardware, storage and storage hardware and all the other stuff. That is all around building a vmware infrastructure.
But how many % knwoledge for the different parts i could not give u a right answer. It depends. Like so much.

Hi..
IMHO...VMware requires knowledge of both the product sphere, vcenter, and some tools to convert, but also requires knowledge of hardware (server) network, for setting the VMware properly, and depending on the job you get, you will realize that configurations at the core switch, or even in vmware using the Nexus 1000V (Cisco). As may also require knowledge of SAN, Storage. All things that are "connected" to the VMware virtual environment. In the part of VMware, it is interesting to know the architecture, best practices, limitations, troubleshoot, and the rest is to gain experience.

Is server knowledge required for VCP?
To take VCP you must be VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.0]
dont need be specialist in servers but a basic knowledge you need have.
Read this document, here you can check all requeriments to study http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/register.cfm?course=103110&user=0&operator=0&pwd=&order=0&n=0&mL_me...
Is Vmware Vsphere & ESX or ESXi is different or same?
vSphere is the name for the wuite of products including ESXi which is the server that provides the virtualization and vCenter which allows you to manage multiple ESXi servers - ESX was a virtualization platform that was available in previous version but with vSphere 5 is no longer available -
There are different.
But for Version 5, there is only a "i" version available. Prior 5, there are ESX with ServiceConsole available.
Version with "i" did not have a service console.
The certification now is only for the Version 5, so only for the "i" Version.

Is server knowledge required for VMware?
It is not required but very helpful - as others have posted the challenge of virtualization certification is that you a need a very good understanding of the compnents that are affected - Compute (CPU and memory), Networking and Storage -
