vdp backup does not exclude certain vmdks

I have just installed new vdp appliance and wants to configure backup jobs. when I select vm it does not give me the option to include or exclude vmdks. I can only select vm which will include all the vmdks. Previously  i was backing up only os and app drive via vdr but i do not have this option in vdp. The vms include data drives which are quite big in sizes and perform a backup via traditional backup software. Is there anyway that I could exclude vmdks from backup jobs?

vmdks which are marked as 'independent' will not be backed up by VDP. So mark the one which you would like to exclude from backup

This will require a shutdown of vm as the Independent option is grayed out while the vm is powered on. The other thing to do a manual snapshot will need to untick the independent option again. Can this be raised with VM support as this will be issue for lots of companies who not want large data drives to be backed up via vdp. With vdr we can select indiviuall vmdks for backup.

This has been raised as an enhancement request for future versions of VDP.
