vDR LAN free backup

there are 2 esx hosts ,of course ,they shared a SAN storage.on one of the host I deployed a VDR, can I use VDR to backup all the VMs reside on both of the 2 hosts by the LAN free way?

This is called "Hot-add mode".

Is VDR off-LAN backup mode enabled In edition vSphere Essential plus

I didn't try this with Essentials Plus myself. However, I'm not aware of any different editions of VDR. It should actually be the same in any of the vSphere Editions. see http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf

VDR works in hot-add-mode... if you have VDR license it works so.

This mean that to make a backup of a VM, VDR "attach" the VM's vmdks and make a copy of their data blocks.

So, if your backup destination is a vmdk, then all the backup is LAN free.

But if your destination is a SMB share, then this step must use the LAN.
