vDP 5.5 deployment issue

We upgraded vCenter successfully to 5.5 and have been unable to get vDP 5.5 to deploy.

Importing the ova and powering it on seems fine, DNS looks good.  We step though initial config and disk setup then after the reboot, it never recovers.

The console is hung on "Reinitializing management services".

Anyone else run into this?

Try to deploy it through the webinterface.

I found out that it doesn't work through th normal vSphere client.

Good luck!

SSH / putty into the appliance.

Go to /usr/local/vdr/etc directory and do an 'ls -lt'.

There should be a file named vdr-configuration-deploying.xml.

If this is zero bytes in size, then go to the VDP configuration UI, and go through the reconfiguration again.

Before restarting the appliance, check the file size of the vdr-configuration-deploying.xml file.

Another user had mentioned that they had a separate zero byte file in this directory that caused similar behavior, so if you see another zero byte file, you might look to remove it and see if that resolves the issue.

deploying through web interface helped get past the "Reinitializing management services" problem.

however, the "vCenter configuration" didn't seem to occur and prompts us after every reboot to step through it again.

'vdr-configuration-deploying.xml' was indeed a 0 byte file and removing this didn't seem to help.

our final, but extremely odd, solution was to keep a continuous ping going between vCenter and vDP appliance after the initial reboot but before starting the "vCenter configuration" step.

we tested several times and the configuration with vCenter step does not complete otherwise.

even deploying to the same host to ignore physical network doesn't matter.
