how to protect vmware vdp

good Morning,
I write here for information on Vmware advanced VDP 5.5
I'm in this situation:
vmware esxi 5.5
vmware vcenter 5.5
vdp advanced vmware 5.5
given domain 160

since I can not retrieve information, I would understand if there is a procedure to restore the vm in case of total disaster of the server room.
Let me explain, I tried to do a backup with dd by vdp on ddboost, delete the current vdp appliances, redo deploy vm with the same name and ip (the vcenter sees it correctly), the problem is when you go to make the connection to the given domain there is no option to choose the old storage-unit, but a new one is created automatically, with no possibility of restoring the checkpoints.

thank you

Mattia

thanks for the answer, the document provides for the procedure of having the vmdk of the vdp active.
I'm in the situation of data loss from storage, so I have the original vmdk.
my vdp make backups of data domain, there is a way to start making by showing the new vdp restore the backup storage unit?
