backupexec12.5 remote agent for Linux

Does anyone installed remote agent for linux servers from backupexec12.5 to the VDR appliance? The version of the VDR appliance is Centos 5.2. Not sure if remote agent for linux from backupexec is compatible with Centos although it is essentially RHEL.

This is for the reason that so that I can backup the data on the locally mounted dedup store of VDR appliance to tapes using backupexec12.5. In this way I am protected from san failures.

Thanks

If you modify the VDR appliance you may loose VMware support on VDR.

Why you do not use two destination for a backup job?

If the second one is a CIFS share than you can easy save those file when VDR is not running.

Another solution is use a NFS share (in this case you will have a vmdk file).

I have actually found out from VMware that this is the case. They recommend installing second RHEL VM, install remote agent for linux backupexec and then remove the disk from VDR and add it to this second RHEL to be able to run backup to tape backups using backupexec12.5.

But, I think this way is prone to mistakes. Hence, I am using mounted a CIFS share as dedup store and then backing up the dedup store using backupexec to tapes.

I hope in future version, VMware release a full backup solution rather than users to keep fiddling with the solution to get what they need.

Thanks for you feedback.
