Hi,
Anyone know what happens with the newest version of VDP if backups
can't be made for one reason or other and retention period is reached
and backup is still active and scheduled.
First version of VDP did just remove all backups and there was no
errors anywhere. Just backups were suddenly gone.
Does VDP remove last good backup when retention period is reached
or does it still keep one restore point?
You can override the retention for a specific restore point by locking it from the restore tab. Just select the restore point and select 'lock'.
This seems a bit manual work if you need to just save at least one
good restore point and retention is just few days.
I think VDR didn't erase last restore point if backup was still active
but retention was reached and no new backups have been made.
We're backing up few virtual machines once a week and one
restore point for these would be enough. This way if backups
haven't been working for more than week all backups are gone..
Good to know though, thanks!
If you have a single restore point and it exceeds its retention cycle, it will be marked to be removed during garbage collection.
It may not be removed off the system in the very next pass, but it will ultimately be removed.
The previously mentioned workaround will allow for you to keep the restore point from being removed.
