Veeam Backup of VM in ESXi 5.5 fails due to "license"

Hello,

I'm using Veeam Backup and Replication 9.5 on Windows Server 2012 R2. Backup of VMs in ESXi fails due to license problems ("Processing Win7-VM Error: Current license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation.").

I'm using free license of ESXi 5.5.0 (2403361).

Any hint how to solve the problem is very welcome... 🙂

Hello!

Free esxi doesn't have VADP feature. You have to buy any vsphere editions to use backup software.

Alternative method is using vghetto backup script from Willam Lam GitHub - lamw/ghettoVCB: ghettoVCB

That's true. As mentioned above, Veeam doesn't support unlicensed (free) ESXi because it has required VMware APIs disabled.

Alternatively you can use Free Windows Backup for Endpoints, Servers, Desktops - Veeam Agent for Windows
