VMware Data Recovery error: “Error: could not connect to 192.168.xx.xx (this operation is not allowed on non-supported sockets)"

We’ve been moving servers to the VMware Data Recovery tool and when I went to check the backup status yesterday, the Backup in Vcenter said page said “Error: could not connect to 192.168.xx.xx (this operation is not allowed on non-supported sockets). Please make sure the Data Recovery Appliance it turned on." I pulled up the console screen for the appliance and it seems to be working fine. What can I check to make sure everything is working properly?

It sounds like the VDR engine stopped for some reason and did not restart itself. You can reboot the VDR appliance, or check the status in the console:

service datarecovery status

If it is not running you can manually start it with: service datarecovery start
