I have a complete vSphere environment, ESX 4, VV 4, etc. I installed Data Recovery 1.1, and can backup all VMs except the VM hosting the SQL Server VirtualCenter uses.
Any ideas?
The issue is that a snapshot cannot be created. I am guessingn due to the machine is runnign SQL Server (low end - light use) but cannot be quiesced. This is the SQL Server that vCenter uses.
Is VMware tools updated? What is the guest OS?
Yes, tools updated. Guest OS is W2k8.
Plain jane Win2K8 or R2?
Machine version 7, W2k8 SP1.
i saw this in the release notes.
Windows Server 2008 Virtual Machine Backups May Fail If Disk UUIDs Are Enabled
Data Recovery can only back up a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine if it does not have disk.EnableUUID=TRUE in its VMX file. This entry only appears in for Windows Server 2008 virtual machines that were created in vSphere 4.1. Before backing up such virtual machines, power off the virtual machine, and then remove the disk.EnableUUID=TRUE entry from the VMX file. After removing this entry, the virtual machine backs up as expected.
