VMWare Data Protection storage questions

Hello,
i try to deploy a vmware data protection appliance.
When i start the wizard i can create new storage max 2 TiB.
At the next step i can click "save with appliance" or i can select a datastore with max 3 HD's a 1024 TiB.
What is the difference?

Can i use VMWare DP with a Standard licence?

What is the difference?

With "Store with appliance" checkbox selected...wizard will deploy disks in same datastore which was selected for your VDP appliance...if you want to store disks elsewhere uncheck "Store..." checkbox and chose another datastores accessible to VDP appliance.

Can i use VMWare DP with a Standard licence?

Yes its included from Essential Plus license and higher...

if I am not mistaken ...once its configured its not possible to expand an existing VDP deduplication store or change its disk size parameters.

Deduplication data plus backup checkpoints and logs counts to VDP storage size.

If some day VDP disks get filled you will have to deploy another instance of VDP so its better to go for the largest possible size and chose thin disk type.

You can't expand VDP standard.

You can expand VDP Advanced.

Yes, I am addicted to the Storage IT solution VMware. I usually had to save lots of private data, but don’t rely on the external storage plans. The online mode of VMware backup is one of the better option where I don’t have to worry about my data that it would be leaked. Before several times I lost my data which was saved to external memories. But the time being I am using CloudBacko VMware and the all my confidential files are secured without any fear of loosing data.
