VDR and application consistent backups

Can VMare Data Recovery perform application consistent backups? I've been searching for an answer, but all I find is info on VDP Advanced.

Can it restore Exchange and SQL data?

VDR is not capable of doing applicable level backup.

VMware Data Protection (VDP) is the replacement of VDR with the relase of vSphere 5.1. As you have mentioned need to use VDP-Advanced if you need to perform application level backup or a third party solution
