VDR 2.0 - When is it coming?

Good Day to All,

Would anyone happen to know when is the approximate release date of the next version VDR, which i assume will be VDR 2.0? I assume with all the issues people are having with VDR 1.1, VMware would be attempting to release the next version. Has anyone heard anything?

Thanks

Steve

I am going to point out that he said 2.0 not 1.2. He is asking if there is a completely NEW version not simply a revision to the old one.

Just out of interest where can the 1.2 beta be downloaded from? We're a Essentials edition subscriber but there doesn't seem to be a link to it on the download page for vSphere.

Only people that are partecipating at the vSphere 4.1 can get this beta version.

For the future, to ask for beta programs

The internal folks are working hard and VDR will have some enhancements in the upcoming releases. I honestly don't know when it will be released.

I have just test the VDR 1.2 Beta, but it crushed at the end of testing! I have told the result to the VMware service, some one told me the VDR 1.2 will release with vSphere 4.1 on July this year, so the VDR 2.0 release schedule may be next year.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!! Failed after end of testing!!!!!!!!!!! I think its time for VMware to get some help from another 3rd party entity with their backup product.

Thanks

Gave up after 3 weeks of testing, 3 rebuilds and an open case with VMware. This version (1.1), I'm very sad to say, is still alpha bits.

you are 6 months, and 1000 posts too late. This is HARDLY news. There are numerous DAILY complaints about VDR Appliance. Someone sold VM Ware an island in the middle of the gulf of Mexico with a free boat ramp. Because there is no other explanation how VM Ware could approve such a horrid app.

Funny.. VM Ware BOUGHT this product to do just that.. help them with their "backup" plans for ESX.

If it's even possible, VDR 2.0 is even worse than 1.2. Constant CIFS errors show up on the console. In an attempt to resolve some of the issues, I even started with a clean destination. After a few backups to it, a recatalog process hung. Nothing I could do would make it finish. Restarting, unmounting/remouting, nothing. So I cleaned the destination again, started over, and found myself back in the same place. I'm going back to 1.2 and I'm looking into Veeam. VDR sucks.

I don't think VDR 2.0 is even worse, as I use for vm with 1TB disks, it is better, my customers have total about 10 VDR servers, now half of them have upgraded to VDR 2.0.

You're lucky, I had a hell of a time getting backups to succeed on a consistant basis. 1.2 works MUCH better for me, but it's still a pain.

I'm done with VDR. Veeam looks very promising.
