VDR 2.0 Multiple Networks / vNICS

When deploying the VDR 2.0 OVF it requires you to specify the networks for two vNICS.  What is the purpose in this?    Is it possible to put each NIC on a different VLAN, one for management/vCenter connectivity and the other for backing up to network shares?

We presently have a separate VLAN for backup traffic that is isolated from the VLAN in which vCenter and the ESX hosts reside.  I would ideally like the VDR appliance to have interfaces to both networks.

Thanks!

The second could be used for a different networ for the destinations.

Another use could be expose the VDR to other networks, for example for the file level restore (where the VM must reach the VDR).

Where do I have to configure the second NIC? There is no way through the GUI "plugin" or console "Network".

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

since the VDR Appliance is based on CentOS all network configuration is done in the same way, see the CentOS guide here http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/s1-s390info-addnetdevice.html#s2-s390info...

In short;

1. Add NIC to VM,

2. Setup network config script (see manual)

3. Activate nic or restart VM

4. Done

Best Regards,

johannes

VDR 2.0 Administration Guide
Page 18 - Install the Backup Appliance section
If you choose to enable the second NIC provided with the backup appliance:
a. Enter the command ifup eth1 in the command line to enable eth1.
b. Change ONBOOT=no to ONBOOT=yes in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 to automatically enable eth1 when the appliance is started.
